Covid Isolation Centre
With the 2nd wave of the novel corona virus hitting the country hard, Honda India Foundation, together with Spherule Foundation, agreed on helping in combating the situation with Rajasthan & Haryana Government. The project of Covid Isolation Centre was structured in way to reduce the load on Hospitals and Government by setting up a Covid Care Isolation Centre at Naurangpur, in Gurugram, and at Tapukada in Rajasthan. Both the tri-party agreements between Honda India Foundation (rep. by Mr. Dhingra), Spherule Foundation (rep. by Dr Bora) & Gurugram & Rajasthan District Administration respectively, laid down various points of responsibilities of each party. It was agreed that the district administration will provide necessities like ambulance service, oxygen supply and referrals from nearby civil hospital along with appointment of a nodal officer for our isolation centre. Spherule Foundation being the implementation partner for the centre will look after hiring trained staff and managing the daily operations of the centre and HIF will be providing funds for all infrastructure and medical supplies required for smooth operations along with bearing costs for food, water and electricity at the centre. Other points related to statutory compliances, liabilities, indemnities, hygiene etc have also been mentioned in the agreement.
Tapukada, Rajasthan

Activities Conducted
On 22nd May, the first set of employees reached the centre. In the next 3 days, all other staff was present too. The location of the centre was decided as the government girls school near the Tapukada Village which was shut due to the ongoing pandemic. The first lot of infrastructure arrived on 26th May as the beds, fans, coolers etc were supplied. We were allotted 6 classrooms and 1 community hall for the centre, along with the screening area and a storage room. The map was designed and all rooms were assigned as specified. The pending work included the entire set up of the centre, right from arranging the beds, getting electrical connections set near each bed, the bifurcation of the red zone and green zone along with branding material. All the tasks were completed within the next 4 days and the centre was ready to start operations. On 1st June’21, the dry run of the isolation centre was carried out with entire medical team and admin team on the floors. A dummy trial, right from entry of a patient in the premises, his screening by a doctor for a check-up of vitals, and filling up his admission form at the Help Desk was processed. The donning and doffing area were tested too along with auxiliary services of support staff in managing the patients at the centre. The process for referral to the nearby civil hospital, in case the patient’s condition deteriorates, and the process of discharge too were carried out. Entire medical equipment along with medicine list was cross checked again, and remaining items were set to be delivered on priority.


Inauguration of centre
On 2nd June’21, the inauguration was scheduled in the noon with the SDM Mr Khema Ram Yadav as our Guest of Honor. The ribbon was cut in a small ceremony followed by snacks.


Promotion and Awareness of Covid Isolation Centre
As the covid wave started diminishing in June, we started more awareness activities of the centre to get patients for isolation. The following activities were carried out: The Active number of Covid Patients reduced from approx 5000 on 15th May to only 2000 by 4th June
– Meetings were conducted with Sarpanch of nearby villages to make them aware about our facility.
– A total of 13 PHCs and 3 CHCs exist in Tijara block of Alwar District. We have visited all 16 Health Centres in our block and met the M.Os. They happily agreed to send patients here if required.
– Met a couple of A.S.H.A workers from the PHCs and also explained them about our isolation centre.
– Posters were printed for BTL promotions and stuck at various places in the PHCs and CHCs visited by our team.
– Prepared a Radio Ad for a private channel on the radio, which will be broadcasted in the month of July.
– Data of Home Isolated Patients was shared with us by our Nodal Officer. Tele follow-up was done by our doctors and nursing staff for any post covid complications.
– Also, non Covid Tele OPD has been started but more awareness drives for the same need to be carried out.

The Rajasthan Centre was schedule to close 20th September, as the Covid wave had drastically reduced, and the schools were about to re-open. In the 4 months while the centre was active, the following impact was reported:
– Awareness Session on various topics like Health & Hygiene, Menstrual Health, Mental Health and Healthy Diets were conducted for more than 500 citizens in total in multiple sessions.
– The Paramedic testing was done for more than 250 new joinees at the Honda plant.
– 515 households were surveyed for vaccination by our team, for an individual count of 1885 citizens. 658 citizens were not even vaccinated once, for whom we arranged for appointments at the nearest PHC with the help of our Nodal Officer.
– Free OPD and checkup was conducted for approx. 50 students and adults at the Covid Centre by our doctors. With this, the centre was shut, and school was re-opened on 20th September 2021.

Activity Timeline
– Assisted in setting up of Covid Isolation Centre with the help of medical team. On 16th May, when the first set of the employees joined, some infrastructure equipment like beds, coolers and fans were already present at the location. The centre manager along with the medical team quickly set up remaining necessities of the centre. A detailed medicine list along with medical equipment was provided by the doctors along with stationary items required for general administration. The logistics manager and centre manager along with medical team quickly decided the red zones and green zones for the centre, the red zone being that area only allowed for patients and medical team suited up in PPE kits at all times. The green zone was chosen for admin work and other staff along with dining area. The green zone also had 2 rooms for as doctors’ and nurse’s resting rooms
A brief dry run was again carried out in the presence of the chief guest to show ourpreparedness and he was satisfied with all our processes. A mock fire drill was conducted too. The ribbon was cut in a low key event as the motive of this centre was to help the needyhence no major celebration was to be done.
Promotion and Awareness of Covid Isolation Centre (May – July)
As the covid wave started diminishing in June, we started more awareness activities of the centre to get patients for isolation. The following activities were carried out: The Active number of Covid Patients reduced from 28,000 on 15th May to only 495 on 10th June.
– Meetings were conducted with Sarpanch of nearby villages to make them aware about our facility.
– A total of 15 PHCs and 19 UPHCs exist in Gurugram. We visited nearby 7 PHCs and 3 UPHCs and met the M.Os. They happily agreed to send patients here if required.
– Met a couple of ASHA workers from the PHCs which led us to meet Ms Arti, the Block Coordinator of A.S.H.A workers who has a force of total 1,100 workers in the district. We shared the soft copy of our details with them and they agreed to circulate it among everyone, only after the permission of the CMO.
– Posters were printed for BTL promotions and put up at various places in the PHCs and UPHCs visited by our team.
– Prepared a Radio Ad for a private channel on the radio, which will be broadcasted in the month of July.
– 2 Awareness sessions were conducted as well, for children of Nakhrola Sports ground and women of Nuarangpur village.
– Data of Home Isolated Patients was shared with us by CMO office. Tele follow-up was done by our doctors and nursing staff for any post covid complications
Free Check-up and OPD at the COVID Isolation Centre (July Onwards)
We mobilized in Naurangpur Village with the help of the village Chowkidar to spread the word about our free health check-up and OPD being carried out at the COVID Isolation Centre. Soon, the word spread, that Free OPD and IPD is available at Honda Isolation Centre, and in the months to come, we treated more than 15,000 patients by the end of March 2022. The various health services available at the centre were:
a) Free OPD and Medicines
As prescribed by our doctors, the patients were provided with the medicine available at the centre, while some of the medicines were advised to purchase from the chemists. Major cases in the OPD were related to body ache & stiffness, flu, cough & cold, anaemia, malnutrition, viral fever and diarrhoea. Based on the observations, new stock of medicines were ordered with a wider variety of compositions to treat some complex ailments as well

b) First Aid and Injuries
There were some cases of the construction site labourers which required First-Aid treatment. Dressing of wounds on a daily basis was carried out by our nurses toensure the wound is cleaned for a quick recovery. Regular follow-up was done by the team The patients also helped spread the word in their surrounding areas

c) I.P.D (in-patient department/ward)
Normal Saline, Ringer Lactic Solution & Dextrose NS were primarily used totreat these patients. They were also provided with Lunch Boxes in case they were admittedduring the afternoon hours. Constant monitoring was done by our nurses for any of their requirement.

Impact Analysis
– A Total of 15,314 patients treated in the past year.
– Considering 9 months of operations, we were able to achieve an average of 57 patients per day.
– In the month of March, we averaged 102 patients per day with only 2 doctors on duty. The industry average for 102 doctors per day is approx. 5 in rotational shifts. Hence, this number in itself is a great achievement.
– We have catered to the underprivileged citizens from almost 30 nearby villages, where patients have come from 30 – 40 kms far.
– We have treated approx. 60 cases of first aid where patients were in dire need of dressing.
– We also treated 8 Covid Patients in the 3rd wave, who opted for home isolation, but were consulted daily on call by our doctors.
– Our target for FY 22-23 is to cater to 3,500 marginalized citizens.
